UNIVERSITY OF WISCONSIN-RIVER FALLS
COLLEGE OF AGRICULTURE, FOOD &
ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCES

Reputation
The College of Agriculture, Food and Environmental Sciences (CAFES) has an outstanding reputation for high quality education and service to the people of Wisconsin. Since 1912, students have been learning from dedicated teachers in classrooms, laboratories and through extracurricular activities. CAFES has over 50 faculty and staff whose focus is on undergraduate education - all classes are taught by faculty. With a student to faculty ratio of 19:1, students enjoy small classes and strong advisor-advisee relationships. In 2003, U.S. News and World Report recognized UW-River Falls as one of the top public universities in the Midwest. This assessment was based on academic reputation, student retention, faculty resources, financial resources, alumni giving and graduation rates.

Departments and Undergraduate Majors
There are five administrative departments responsible for the academic programs: Agricultural Economics, Agricultural Education, Agricultural Engineering Technology, Animal and Food Science, and Plant and Earth Science

Undergraduate majors

Facilities
CAFES has excellent teaching facilities and well-equipped laboratories:
Animal Science Laboratories
Dairy Science Laboratories
Biochemistry and Microbiology Laboratories
Colt Training Facilities and Barn
Computer Aided Drafting (CAD) Laboratories
Crops and Soil Science Laboratories
Food Processing Plants
Geology Laboratories
Greenhouses
Outdoor Plant Teaching Laboratory
Resource Management Laboratories

In addition, CAFES operates a laboratory farm at two sites, providing vital resources for teaching, extension, and research. The farm is a diverse operation including beef, dairy, horse, sheep and swine enterprises, and cropping enterprises. Planning for a new Dairy Learning Center to be built on the farm is well underway. Classes and laboratory sessions bring students out to the farm. Students also have the opportunity to work on the farm or participate in research projects on the farm.

Student Organizations
There are over 20 clubs in CAFES and more than 100 others on campus, so students have plenty of opportunities to pursue their interests, meet other students, and network with business and industry representatives. Our judging teams excel both regionally and nationally.

Scholarships
There are numerous scholarships available to students within all disciplines in the college. You may obtain detailed information at: www.uwrf.edu/financial-assistance/

Internship Program
Internships provide students with the opportunity to obtain worthwhile educational experiences that they cannot normally acquire on campus. Students earn academic credit while working in a professional setting, and have the opportunity to apply classroom knowledge to real world situations. Ongoing communication, feedback and evaluation among students, faculty and work supervisors ensure that educational and work goals are met.

International Opportunities
UW-River Falls offers opportunities for students to study abroad. Programs include, but are not limited to, a 2 week summer seminar in Greece, a 3 week cultural experience in Mexico over semester break, or a full semester abroad in a European country.

Alternatively, a number of CAFES faculty participate in and/or host international training programs. Our faculty have recently hosted groups from several Eastern European and Latin American countries. Also, the annual Food Microbiology Symposium attracts a number of international speakers and attendees. There are often opportunities for students to meet and interact with these visitors during their stay on campus.
