FARM AND INDUSTRY SHORT COURSE

WHAT IS SHORT COURSE
The Farm and Industry Short Course is a 17-week educational program designed to prepare men and women for exciting careers in agriculture.  It will be conducted from November to March.

PROGRAMS OF STUDY
Students can choose from over 50 courses in the areas of soils, crops, poultry, dairy, meat animals and general livestock, agricultural engineering, agricultural economics, human relations and communications.

SPECIALTY PROGRAMS
Six specialty program courses of study are offered in the Farm and Industry Short Course.  Students may complete one of these during a year of course work.  The specialties (20 credits minimum) are as follows:

· Crop & Soil Management Specialty
· Dairy Farm Management Specialty
· Farm Mechanics Specialty
· Farm Service & Supply Specialty
· Meat Animal/Poultry Specialty
· Grass-Based Dairying

PROGRAM CERTIFICATION
Students may earn a 1-year or 2-year certificate.  Twenty credits are required for the 1-year certificate, while 40 credits are required for the 2-year certificate.  Students can transfer up to 15 credits to the 4-year B.S. Degree Programs in Agriculture.  Credits are transferable to the 4-year degree programs in agriculture.

HANDS-ON EXPERIENCE
The Short Course program combines cutting edge knowledge in the field with practical hands-on experience and internships. 

HOUSING
Special Short Course dormitories are available on campus to house men and women.

SCHOLARSHIPS AND LOANS
Short Course applicants are urged to try for one for more than 80 scholarships available.  In total, more than $70,000 is awarded each year.  Short Course students are eligible for Guaranteed Student Loans available through local banks and savings and loan institutions.  Scholarship deadline is 
April 1.
